by Monica McCarty
Series: Highland Guard (#6)
Published by: Ballantine Books
October 30th 2012
Genre: Historical Romance
Format: Mass Market Paperback

Rating: 5 Stars

This is the story of Kenneth Sutherland, Helen's brother and Saint's brother in law, who has to prove that he is one of the best to be accepted into Bruce "phantom army". But Mangus "Saint" MacKay will do anything to see him fail and not take the place of his old friend and Kenneth foster brother William "Templar" Gordon. But Kenneth won't be deterred from what he want at any cost...or will he?

Mary of Mar, widowed of the Earl of Atholl, was left with a broken heart what not even 6 months old her son was taken from her to foster under the household of King Edward. When her husband Atholl decides to turn "traitor" she is saved from harsh retribution from the crown by Sir Adam Gordon, "Templar's" uncle who is in love with her. Vowing never to put her life and that of her son in the hand of another man by marrying she is none the less attracted to Kenneth when she goes with the Bishop of St. Andrews to Scotland to vouch on behalf of her son for his lands and to keep the "peace truce" (although King Edward had other plans).

When she sees how much like her late husband Kenneth looks she wants nothing from him but a night of passion and she lets him know in no uncertain terms how it's going to be. But not always we get what wish for and Mary was no exception.

We get lots of action and even more lost tempers which it turns to many battles, be them of fists, swords, or wills. I love how McCarthy develops this books. I have yet to find a historical author that makes me feel like I'm right there in the battle field with the characters but specifically in the time in which the book is developed. I swear when I'm reading her books I feel like I'm in the 1300's with the characters and that is a treat not many authors have.

In this story like the other Guards I felt the irresistible urge to smack the characters upside the head. But unlike the others I felt compel to do it to HER more than him!

Well I think it was about time we got Kane to the mix. I think that from all the cousins he is the one who has learned the most. Not because it has boobs is yours to do as you want. Kane is trying to keep his distance from Ginger but she doesn't make it easy. And because his being burn by a Little Buddy's mamma once, he doesn't want a repeat performance. But as he passes more and more time with Hayden and learns more about Ginger his heart is engaged and he can't leave it behind.

It is very heart wrenching seeing Kane struggle with himself and his feelings and with the things he has to do to keep them in his life. Again Lorelei has me keeping the Kleenex near.

Series: Scottish Werewolf Shifter (#1)
Published by: Excessica Publishing

Genre: Historical Romance, Paranormal
Format: eARC

Rating: 5 Stars

Two of my favorite genres are Scot Historical and Paranormal Romances. Put them together and what do we get? Highland Wolf Pact.

Selena Kitt is a new author for me and I don't really venture into new territory often when it comes to Scottish historical books. Many authors don't know how to write historical Scottish books but I'm really glad I tried her. I love a book that can transport me to the era and time it's been written in and I got that in this book. Also it grabbed my attention from the beginning and held it throughout the entire book.

We have Sybil, who is an English woman, that has been promised to a Scot laird. But like any marriage in that times it was an arranged one and not one made of love. He was man who thought himself entitled and saw her more of a possession, like a child with a new toy, than a woman and future mother of his children. For this reason Sybil decided to run away.

The day she was to run away she was forced to defy Alastair, her betrothed, in order to save a pregnant wolf that he was planing to kill. And then she was rescued by Raife, a man she later realized was a Wolver or man-wolf.

I liked that even when they knew they had an attraction to each other early on they didn't act on it quickly. Time passes on, days, weeks and months, before they get intimate with each other. Then of course things happen were Sybil has to return to the McFalcon clan and it puts a dent in Sybil and Raife's relationship but in the end all gets fixed.

There just one thing that would have made it an even better book and that was if it had had another POV besides Sybil's. But everything else was amazing. I can't wait for the next book. I hope is Kristin's.

by J.R. Ward
Series: Fallen Angels (#6)
Published by: Signet
October 7th 2014
Genre: Paranormal Romance
Format: Hardcover

Rating: 5 Stars

J.R. Ward has a way with words. Her book are really down to earth and her artistic mentions are actually from this century. I don't have to google it because I was not born when that person, movie or song was famous.

This is the end of an extraordinary series and although we all new the outcome of this war it was nonetheless an excellent read. It was full or oh-oh, WTF-is-wrong-with-you and oh-$h*t moments, and in Ward faction felt me siting on the edge of my seat nervous and exited and OMG I can't take it anymore!

We also had all the loose ends that have been left throughout the entire series pulled together. From Eddie to Nigel and Collin. I really like that Mrs. Ward puts in several POVs in her books because this gives us more insight to the characters, their situation and their interactions with others. There is a lot of character development and it makes you fall in love not just with the characters who are the main focus of the book but with others as well.

I feel sorry for Devina, after all she just wanted to feel loved but she should have listened to her therapist before it has to late. I am just sorry to see this series end but there are so many souls you can win in this game. Now what is left is to look forward to the next BDB book and J.R. Ward's new series Bourbon Kings.

We see here how "Wild Child" Keely McKay is tamed by her long time nemesis Jack Donohue. It is a funny, hot and sentimental story were Keely and Jack have to look past their bickering and see that all they feel is love for each other and that all that fighting is just a means to keep the other away. We have awesome sex, funny arguing and heartfelt scenes.

I really like this story like every other MaKay. What can I say Lorelei is a girl after my own heart. I swear if this woman keeps writing such great stories I'll become one of those fan stalkers people read about!! :)

This book was a good read. I liked the fact that their family supported them and some of Brad's friends. It's really heart breaking seeing how Brad struggle with his sexuality and how this happens to a lot of guys, being afraid of rejection from other people.

What I found annoying was the fact that Brad was kind of girly in his responses to Sebastian for being a Jock. But I understand that not all people can be tough in a relationship.

But it was a good book with a good story about how things might go down on fraternities. Although we all know that many people are closed minded and that the reactions in this book are just that and imagination of the author...

This was a fast-paced book. We don't get the full story behind the characters or at least something other than why they find themselves in that situation. It is a good book for those who don't care much about romance in their stories.

We just get that Kate would love to have her way with five hunks but doesn't know how to approach without being seen as a slut. There is too the fact that she is more attracted to Mike than the others and that she doesn't want him to have her heart and then break it because of her desires.

There sure are some steamy scenes and crazy love to spread around. But aside from that, I would have liked more in-depth info on the characters. It has the good elements of a great story if the author wants to someday make more of it.

Another great story by Mrs. James.

Here we have the story of Nick West, cousin to the Rough Riders, the McKay's. Trying to solve the problem of his friend Rudy, Nick goes to the Sugar Plums in search on Mistress Christmas, the star stripper on the club, and bring her to justice. What he hadn't being counting on was that fate was handing him a golden key.

As a favor for her friend and client, Holly North fills in for the true Mistress Christmas, who is sick, and meets dark, dangerous and alluring, Nick West. After a lap dance gone wrong (the good kind of wrong) Holly expects to never see Nick against for her own good and sanity, but Nick comes back for more. And boy does he get more.

After spending a whole night in each others arms, Holly can't face the possibility of not measuring up to Nick's expectations so she sneaks out of the hotel room, inadvertently taking his wallet with her. Secrets are revealed but, can Nick and Holly see beyond them?

This story is filled with steam, naughtiness and some two left feet the keep things from getting too intense. I loved that ending. A great (albeit too short) ending to a great beginning!

I liked this one better than the first. There was something more in this story. We still have hunky cowboy warriors with special abilities but I think their story was more intriguing.

There was something about the chemestry between this characters that drew. And also Morgan's background and her family, who made her who she is, and the reason Justin saw her as not fitting in and lashing out to protect his heart.

If this series continues this way I'll definitively read it all. And I AM curious as to who are the two big bad elusive guys.

OMG what can I say?! A-MA-I-ZIN'!! There is action, suspense, and excitement in this book. As well as rushes of adrenaline for those NASCAR fans.

Gail "Jimmy" James, being the best qualified mechanic Winston (team owner) could find after the dead of his head mechanic and a female at that, has a hard time being accepted by her team mates. Then strange things started to happened and her experience is called into question. But when a threatening note appears on her tool box that is when things go from "rookie mistake" to serious matters.

Rex Henderson, driver of No. 14 and resident hunk, is attracted to Jimmy from the beginning but his racing comes first as his only desire is to owe his own team. But when problems start to come to the surface where they point to mechanical in nature he is put to the test on the faith he has for Gail. Also it comes to the light (at least to HIS light) how he truly feels for her.

I really liked this book and that even when it was a romantic book not all was focused on the romance.

The only thing I was disappointed on was that I guessed who was behind all fairly quick. But overall I loved the story. It was something new, different and refreshing.

The only thing the I have to really agree with and that got to me was the fact that if Elizabeth had being upfront with Nolan what went down with Kyler could have being prevented. But we are humans and sometimes think that what we do and say is the right thing even when it's not.

I loved that final scene between Beth and Nolan ^_^ and can't wait to read the next one so see ya...

Add to it my fave genre (western) and I'm in heaven. Although Cam is left with a physical reminder of what happened to him on while in the force he is by no means less of a man. Couple with those McKay genes and you get one hot, "cowboy" deputy and sex to talk about.

I can say that Lorelei knows how to put up a good story that entertain you and leaves you wanting more. I can't wait for the next McKay to come and sweep me away to la la hot land!!

At first I was a bit lost in the plot of the story and how it was put together. That been said about a quarter into the book I finally got what was going on. But it wasn't until two thirds into it that it really got my attention.

It isn't very often that you come across an author who uses their really REAL life experiences to write a book with a twist here and there. I liked how it all came to and how Samantha Steele got around to write the others point of view.

Something a didn't liked was the fact that so much time came and went with nothing meaningful going on. Also at the beginning the hasty explanation of who she was, how she got there and some parts of the past.

I think the prologue should have being the epilogue instead. Meaning the explanation of who they really were and what was their true purpose. Right after Zac's epilogue scene. But overall I liked the story and I wound definitively like to read what comes next for this characters.

No matter if you are young or old love can be found if you let it in. But some times we must forgive our past, face our present and plan our future for happiness to find us.      Another awesome read!

In this next installment to the Wylder Sisters, Lizzie has an arranged marriage too by her father when she was very young to the Duke of Hawkesworth. Since she is the "wyldest" of the sisters and the most passionate, her mother is afraid that this will consume her marriage fast and make her unhappy.

Hawke has come from Italy for the sole purpose of marring Lady Elizabeth Wylder before her 19th birthday for not doing so means loosing his money. What he hadn't count on was that his young vivacious wife was not tainted by London society and that she would share his interest in art and meet his passion with her own.

Once they see beyond what is expected of them by society and from each other they'll see that their love is stronger that they think and that you can never be someone you're not. You can have and example with which to guide you but you can expect it to be exact.

I love the playfulness in Hawke and that he didn't care (well mostly didn't care) what society had to say about obligations and decorum and that Lizzie only wanted to please her husband but that in no way made less a woman.

I can't wait to read the next story as it contains roguish Duke of Sheffield and we get a small glimpse of him at the end of this book!!

Okay so I haven't read the original book Fifty Shades of Grey(sue me) but this was a hilarious book. I was laughing so hard that even my children were looking me funny. I LOVE a good laugh. This book was like reading "Scary Movie". Lots of movie stars mention and other assorted trademarks.

I just couldn't get past the stalkerish nature of Mr. Grey. I mean for reals a whole company so he could take her for a coffee across the street in a HELICOPTER!? Then her condo and the cameras and the background and... you get my point. *shudders* Aaanyways. I think the heroine was kind of Bella-ish...

But even all that didn't make it a bad book. It was a good read...(hear?...I got the audio) and I can't wait for the next book I just don't think I'll be able to read the original if it's that stalker-ish.

It started a bit slow but after it picked up it was really good. I wanted to slap Master Dan for being so stupid, but I commend Kari for being persistent. I think being a high school teacher helped her deal with a stubborn guy who had a chunk of wood for heart and the tact of a chair.

I liked how she pressured him to acknowledge what he was really feeling and that final chase when he was made to see his true feelings for Kari and not have time to shut down.

So I'm on to read the next!

Review: It's a Good Life by Carol Lynne

10:14:00 AM 0 Comments
After years waiting for more Good-Time Boys here it finally is.

What I liked
The dynamic of the family. That we still get a glimpse of the Cattle Valley crew. That finally we get to meet new family members. Even though Sonny is struggling he still is the center of the family. That Garron hasn't and won't give up on his love and that he is willing to make new memories to replace the ones lost to Sonny.

What I didn't like
The only thing I didn't like was the fact that Sonny lost the memory of one of the most important days of his life even when that same memory was the worst.

It was a really good book and I would love to have more of them.

I loved the story in this book and the chemistry between characters. It was very entertaining and romantic. I liked the way Nev expressed his love for Cath via his art. That is a truly unique way of saying I LOVE YOU.

It was very sad what happened to Cath in her youth and very callous for Winston to just fling it out there like that(the prick). I almost laughed at how she took out her shirt in front of those people in the bus stop if her telling her story hadn't had me at the edge of tears(I think that is what saved me the water works).

The only thing I hated of the book is that is a stand alone and I won't be able to see what's come of Mary Catherine and Neville.

The only thing that didn't let me give this book more rating was the fact that it left a lot of details out as to this vampire culture and how the mating ceremony is realized.

What can I say. I love me some highlander and Maya has deliver once again in this awesome second installment of The Montgomerys and Armstrongs.

There is much to be said for a man who can see past the horrible things and to the soul of a wounded woman and what she really wants. What her heart really desires. And make dreams come true and restore hope when it's waning.

This new story of The Montgomerys and Armstrongs is as good as the first and we get more insight as to Eveline's capture by Ian McHugh. I really can't say much about the book that won't spoil it but I'm going to say this. I REALLY RECOMMEND THIS BOOK!!!

I'm anxious for the next installment.
